Cry, The Beloved Country – Digital

We are pleased to present this Trinity Forum Reading, featuring selections from Alan Paton’s Cry, The Beloved Country with an introduction by Al McDonald.

Few stories better illustrate the search for reconciliation than Alan Paton’s heart-rending novel portraying a Zulu pastor and his family in a land torn apart by racial injustice. Drawing from his own experience under South African apartheid, Paton weaves a poignant narrative that explores love for God, justice, and the land and the people of a deeply divided nation.

At a time when living with our differences feels increasingly difficult, this Reading highlights enduring and essential themes: the longing for racial understanding, the shared humanity of offender and victim, the sorrow of fathers for their sons, the fellowship found in suffering, and the extraordinary power of forgiveness.
