Technology and the Good Life? with Michael Sacasas in Nashville, TN

November 9, 2026 6:00pm - 8:00pm CT
Overview

We’re excited to welcome you to Montgomery Bell Academy on November 9 at 6:00 PM CT for an Evening Conversation with Michael Sacasas to talk about technology and AI and its implications on culture and society.

Michael Sacasas is a cultural observer who explores technology and culture with unique insight: asking not only what new technologies can do for us, but what they are doing to us. As the author of The Convivial Society, a popular Substack, he helps us grasp how our tools shape our habits, imagination, relationships, and understanding of what it means to be human.

His remarks in Nashville come in the wake of new revelations about the velocity of changes in AI and extinction-level threats it may pose. Michael contends that these developments require new attention to how AI will change the political or economic environment – and to how it will change us. He’ll help us understand: what distinctly human capacities deserve to be cultivated rather than outsourced? How can a Christian idea of what it means to be human help us navigate away from either a Luddite aversion or dangerous techno-optimism?

Michael Sacasas is the author of The Convivial Society, a widely-read newsletter exploring the intersection of technology, culture, and the moral life. His work has appeared in The New Atlantis, Comment Magazine, and Plough. He is also the author of a forthcoming book, 41 Questions: Technology and the Moral Life. In 2024, he was selected to Vox’s annual Future Perfect 50 list. Michael is also the Executive Director of the Christian Study Center of Gainesville, Florida, which facilitates encounters with a Christian vision of life, learning, and hospitality at the University of Florida and brings together students, faculty, and other members of the University of Florida community to explore the intellectual and cultural resources of the Christian tradition.
