We are pleased to announce this Trinity Forum Reading, featuring selections from “Revelations of Divine Love” by Julian of Norwich, an anchoress and mystic, with an introduction by Trinity Forum Senior Fellow Jessica Hooten Wilson.
Julian is best remembered for her affirmation that “All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.” Yet during her lifetime, Julian’s world, much like our own, was characterized by turmoil and unrest. The Black Death killed an estimated half of Europe’s population and left no city untouched – including her beloved Norwich. At the age of thirty, Julian received sixteen shewings, or visions, of the passion of Christ. These visions, compiled under the title “Revelations of Divine Love,” comprise the earliest surviving text written by a woman in the English language. Julian’s words continue to be a source of comfort during turbulent times.
