His work continues to influence international medical missions, beginning in 1940 with the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship which first served the Schweitzer Hospital in Lambaréné, Gabon, West Africa, and has since expanded to over 2,000 Fellows involved in healthcare for vulnerable populations worldwide and honoring his legacy.
