Sphere Sovereignty
We are delighted to present our new fall Trinity Forum Reading, featuring theologian and Dutch Prime Minister Abraham Kuyper’s address articulating his philosophy of “sphere sovereignty.”
A theologian, pastor, journalist, political party founder, and eventual Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Kuyper is best known today for his articulation of the idea of sphere sovereignty as a framework in which to understand God’s dominion over all of human life in harmony with the freedom of each sphere to operate in their diverse and unique areas of responsibility. With an insightful introduction by Wheaton scholar and ethicist Vincent Bacote, this Reading aims to shed light on this influential but often misunderstood school of thought and its implications for both church and state today.
